ccSalon SF 6/24/09
We hope you can join us at the next ccSalon SF when we will explore the digital intersection of art, history, and culture, and how CC can play a defining role in enriching all three. Our presenters for the evening:
* Francesco Spagnolo, Director of Research and Collections at the Magnes Museum in Berkeley. Francesco will explore the sharing and marketing of cultural heritage through the lenses of the Magnes’ “Digital Narratives,” a project that seeks an alignment between a narrative approach to history, a collaborative practice in the interpretation of cultural history, and the uses of technology and online social media.
* Dave Toole, CEO and Founder, Outhink Media, will present on how storytelling bridges the cultural and business arenas, outlining the challenges posed by the new social media and the crucial role played by research in information technology.
* Nancy Van House, Professor, UC Berkeley School of Information, will respond to the other presenters by reflecting on the way in which academia is looking at social media and personal/historical digital archiving, exploring the human interactions that populate the online world.
When: Wednesday, June 24, 7-9pm
Location: PariSoMa, 1436 Howard St. (map and directions). Plenty of street parking available. (Please note, the space is located up two steep flights of stairs, and unfortunately does not currently have elevator access.)
Light refreshments will be provided, and since we rely on the generosity of our community to keep us afloat, we’ll be accepting donations for CC at the door.

If you’re located in the Bay Area, we hope you’ll be able to join us at the next ccSalon SF, where we will hear from three presenters talking about their international projects:
* Miquel Hudin Balsa, Co-Founder of Maneno, a blogging and communication platform built to meet the needs of the Sub-Saharan blogger and writer.
* David Harris, Executive Director of Global Lives Project, an international collaboration of filmmakers, designers, architects, activists, and institutions to chronicle 24 hours in the life of ten individuals from around the globe, forming an innovative video installation and collaborative online video encyclopedia.
* Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee, Founder and Director of Global Oneness Project, which seeks to explore how the radically simple notion of interconnectedness can be lived in our increasingly complex world by creating a “living library” of films chronicling the courageous lives of people passionate about sustainability, conflict resolution, spirituality, art, economics, indigenous culture, and social justice.
Light refreshments will be provided, and since we rely on the generosity of our community to keep us afloat, we’ll be accepting donations for CC at the door.

No Comments »Open Design at Berlin’s openeverything and CC Salon TONIGHT!
Join us tonight for the second installment of Openeverything Focus in Berlin. We’ll be talking with designers about how openness can augment their work — from publishing, design tools, community building, customization, and more.
We’ll be hearing from Open Design pioneer Ronen Kadushin, whose work was recently featured in WIRED Magazine’s Mod That Table: High-End Furniture Goes Open Source. Also joining us is Fabbing expert Susanne Stauch and CC’s own senior designer Alex Roberts. A huge thank you to Linda Löser (Fragement Store), Cecilia Palmer (Pamoyo), and the rest of the #oefb team for putting together this outstanding program. See you there!

Encouraged by the resonance of openeverything camp in December 2008, we’re helping put on a regular series of events about “openness.” This Thursday, Feb. 26, kicks off the first openeverything focus, in tandem with the CC Salon in Berlin.
This month we’re focusing on Open Knowledge, delving into project like OKFN‘s Open Knowledge Definition and learning more about the 100,000 CC BY-SA images donated to Wikimedia Commons by the German Federal Archives.
Each focus event draws on theory and praxis to inform the discussion. If you have a project you’d like to share, or are just curious to join the conversation, please stop by!

Just a reminder that the Creative Commons Salons NYC is happening tomorrow night!
Creative Commons Salons in NYC have been building momentum and tomorrow is our February salon. Come out to have some beers with the CC community (don’t worry, we’ll open it up early this time) watch some cool presentations, and meet some new faces in the free culture space. Since we’ve outgrown our original space, The Open Planning project, February’s Salon is back at For Your Imagination‘s loft space.
February’s Salon will feature presentations by Bre Pettis on Thingiverse.com‘s CC integration, blip.tv’s CEO Mike Hudack demoing new features of the CC-friendly video site, and co-CEOs Dan Zaccagnino and Matt Siegel from Indaba Music, talking about their recent work on Colbert v. Lessig remix shenanigans.

We hope you’ll join us tomorrow evening at our CC Salon SF from 7-9pm at PariSoMa, located at 1436 Howard Street, San Francisco (map and directions). You’ll get the chance to meet the entire CC staff and hear about our latest projects on the international scene and in education, science, and culture. There will also be time for questions and discussion. Whether you’ve been a fan of CC from the start or you’re new to the world of free culture, this salon is not to be missed! Light refreshments will be provided.
Please note: The space is located up two steep flights of stairs, so if anyone is in need of elevator access, there is a freight elevator we can use. You will just need to buzz up when you arrive and let someone know.

CC Colombia has proudly announced their first CC Salon will be held in Bogotá! The guests accompanying the program come from different backgrounds (film, music, and the web), but with a common purpose: to share content. Speaking at the event:
