Jocelyn Miyara is the Community Strategy and Engagement Manager at Creative Commons, where she plays a central role in building, nurturing, and coordinating CC’s global community. She leads strategic engagement initiatives, supports grassroots leadership, and fosters inclusive participation across the CC community. Jocelyn also stewards community communications, facilitates international collaboration, and acts as a key bridge between CC and the broader open movement.
Prior to this role, Jocelyn was CC’s Open Culture Manager, supporting the stewardship of open access policies and partnerships in the cultural heritage sector. Before joining CC, she worked at The New York Public Library for over five years—first as a Special Projects Manager in the President’s Office, and later as Program Manager for their Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access team. Across her career, Jocelyn has cultivated a passion for equitable policy, collaborative project management, and the free exchange of knowledge and culture.
She is based in Brooklyn, New York.

With both Wikipedia and Creative Commons turning 25 this year, our participation in Wikimania 2026 felt especially meaningful. A quarter-century in, both organizations have evolved from scrappy experiments to global infrastructure. Our community has grown through a shared commitment to openness, access, and knowledge. The weeklong conference reaffirmed that commitment as AI is reshaping how we access knowledge and share online.
Over the past 25 years, Creative Commons has helped transform openness from an aspiration into a global practice. Through open licensing, communities around the world have built new models for sharing. Over the past year, Creative Commons communities around the world have continued to show what’s possible when people come together around shared values of openness, collaboration, and care. In 2025 we were focused on gathering feedback on our ongoing preference signals explorations, creating and gathering feedback on new governance frameworks for future implementation, streamlining community communication channels, and transitioning to an open source chat platform for community collaboration.
